Gun used in San Francisco pier shooting confirmed to be stolen federal agent’s as sheriff blasts immigration officials
A gun stolen from a federal agent was confirmed to be the murder weapon in a San Francisco pier shooting that's sparked national debate about immigration policy, police said Friday.
Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez, a 45-year-old undocumented immigrant, tossed the .40-caliber gun in the San Francisco Bay after he shot Kate Steinle, 32, in front of her father on scenic Pier 14 on July 1, police said.
Authorities recovered the pistol and determined it belonged to a U.S. Bureau of Land Management ranger, local media reported. The gun had been stolen in a car burglary on June 27.
